Like most other owners of 30 GB Zunes, I was disconcerted to find my player would not boot up yesterday morning.  It turns out that because 2008 was a leap year, the clock in the Zunes didn’t realize that yesterday (12/31, the 366th day of 2008) was a valid day.  And hey — how was Microsoft to know that a year with 366 days would come along so soon after they released the Zune to market back in 2006?

The good news for me and most other Zune 30 GB owners is that our players came back online by themselves after 12:00 PM GMT this morning, provided that the battery was allowed to run down first.  I let my battery run down yesterday after I read about Microsoft’s prediction that the player would come back online after noon Zulu time, so all I had to do was plug it in before I took my shower this morning and it was ready to go before I left the house.

Of course, you know the “cool” kids — that is, Apple iPod owners — are laughing their a**es off today.
